Cleveland Cavaliers in talks witth Derrick Rose for one-year contract

According to reports on Thursday, Derrick Rose is in talks to join LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on a one-year deal. The NBA Finals were happening, the Cavs were competing for the championship, and Irving was seen as one of the cornerstones of the team. The move makes sense for Cleveland, even if Rose doesn't address their full needs or really pull them significantly closer to the Warriors.

The point guard was so dominant, that he broke up what would have been five straight MVPs for LeBron James. Windhorst reports James was "blindsided and disappointed" and that other members of the team have learned of Irving's request.

His season ended April 2 after a left knee injury that required the fourth knee surgery of his nine-year National Basketball Association career.

That said, $2.1m on a one-year deal is tremendous value for a player of Rose's calibre, especially in a market where the salary cap came in lower than projected and more teams are strapped for cash.

This is largely viewed as the Lakers' signing to lose, as they can offer the best situation for his play and the most money contractually, but it'll all depend in the quality of pitches made by each organization if they hope to ensure his services.

Celtic fans give verdict on star's debut vs Linfield - 'Oozed class', 'dominated'
Griffiths will serve his ban when Celtic hosts Rosenborg in a third qualifying round, first-leg game next Wednesday. The charges against Linfield FC include the throwing of objects onto the pitch and a field invasion by fans.

Forget the Lakers, as Rose is still a starting-caliber guard.

As mentioned, Derrick Rose was also looking into possibly joining the young and talented Milwaukee Bucks' team.

Rose was traded last summer from the Bulls to the Knicks, where he averaged 18 points and 4.4 assists for a NY team that ended the season 30-52.

The 2011 NBA MVP spent last season with the New York Knicks where he averaged 18 points per game. He now has played 130 games the last two seasons after logging just 100 over the previous four. They'll likely add a point guard, Rose or not. Last season, he averaged a career-high 25.2 points and 5.8 assists per game while shooting 40.1 percent on 3-pointers. It's worth mentioning that the Los Angeles Lakers are also in the picture per ESPN.

Rose coming off the bench has 6th man of the year potential, unless his role is extremely limited. Rose has not aged well and is a decent backup point guard at best at this point in his career.
