Stabbings at West Bank settlement leave 3 dead, 1 injured

The measures were put in place by Israel following the deaths of two police officers in East Jerusalem on June 14.

It has been a flashpoint site for Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the past decades since the 1967 Israeli occupation of East Jerusalem.

Three Palestinians were killed during clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians around Jerusalem s Old City and in the occupied West Bank over new security measures at the site in the Holy City.

The stabbing comes as tensions surrounding a shrine - known as the Temple Mount to Jews and the Noble Sanctuary to Muslims - in Jerusalem reach a boiling point.

In response to the security measures, Palestinians rallied after the Muslim Friday prayers, protesting the new measures, including the barring of Muslim men under the age of 50.

The Arab League has warned Israel is "playing with fire" over the "red line" of Jerusalem and its foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday over Israeli-Palestinian violence, according to statements on Sunday.

Several hundred other people, mostly Palestinians, were also wounded in the course of moves against the protests, which Israeli press labeled "riots".

Israeli forces killed six Palestinians and injured tens in the past 72 hours, while a Palestinian man stabbed three Israeli settlers to death on Friday night.

The Israeli military said the attacker was shot by a neighbour of the victims - who was an off-duty soldier - and taken to hospital after sneaking into the home in the settlement of Halamish.
