At least 47 dead in Nepal flooding after days of downpours

Kathmandu: At least 36 people were killed and 12 others missing in floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in several districts across Nepal, officials said on Saturday.

Heavy monsoon rains caused flooding in Nepal, Bangladesh and India, which claimed the lives of over 165 people.

Of the 700 tourists stranded in Sauraha in the Chitwan National Park, almost 200 were from India and about the same number from other countries.

Dozens of elephants and rafts have been deployed to rescue almost 500 people trapped by floods in a popular resort in southern Nepal, officials say.

Due to heavy three-day rains in India, Nepal and Bangladesh started landslides, floods and fires.
