Bills trade Watkins to Rams; get Matthews from Eagles

They also sent cornerback Ronald Darby to the Philadelphia Eagles, acquiring wide receiver Jordan Matthews and a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft in return, as reported by the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Vanderbilt product was a second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

His skillset also meshed well with that of Tyrod Taylor, a player who, this summer, nearly became an ex-Bill himself. "Being in this league seven years, you know every day you step into the building could be your last day". It's possible that Seymour competes with recent acquisition E.J. Gaines for the outside cornerback job opposite rookie Tre'Davious White or defeats Leonard Johnson for the slot cornerback job, but Buffalo's top three cornerbacks may be completely different this season.

McCoy seems to be upset about the trade, and rightfully so. "It's a business. He has to understand that. But I can understand how he feels, being traded for a guy that he's better than".

The Bills lost their first preseason game of the 2017 schedule Thursday night, 17-10, to the Minnesota Vikings at New Era Field.

"[Matthews] is a self-made man", Beane said.

It's safe to say we're not shy when it comes to getting you ready for the upcoming National Football League season.

McDermott admitted to being taken aback slightly, but as everything was presented, he clearly saw the vision. "That's why I didn't sleep last night", said McDermott. "It was a hard decision, one that we spent a lot of time discussing, but these are the conversations that have to be had".

If we back off the need for a deep threat, though, the reality is that the Bills host three games to open December before traveling to New England and Miami to close out the season.

The Sammy Watkins trade wasn't all the Buffalo Bills had in store for their roster, though.

In exchange for Watkins and a sixth-round draft pick next year, the Bills received cornerback E.J. Gaines and a second-round draft pick in 2018. Jordan Matthews played 58 percent of his snaps in the slot, which is also where most of his production came from (84 targets, 54 receptions, 604 yards, and 2 touchdowns).

New Rams head coach Sean McVay worked wonders as Washington's offensive coordinator last season, including guiding quarterback Kirk Cousins to 4,917 passing yards and milking 1,000-yard years out of veteran receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon when they were arguably past their primes.

In Los Angeles, Watkins is reunited with former Bills starter Robert Woods, who signed with the Rams in free agency after four seasons in Buffalo.

Watkins was a first-round draft pick in 2014 and had 153 catches for 2,459 yards and 17 touchdowns in three seasons with the Bills. He had foot surgery in the spring, missed half the year, caught for 28 passes for 430 yards in eight games, then had foot surgery again in January.
