Speaking to TimesLive, Gaby - who was told to seek medical attention before even reporting the incident to the police - confirmed that she will be opening an assault case against Mrs Mugabe.

Gabriella's mother‚ Debbie‚ said they were going to the police station to open an assault case yesterday (Monday).

News24 published a picture of what it said was Ms Engels with a large gash in her forehead. "I was surprised. I had to crawl out of the room before I could run away", she said.

Acting national police commissioner Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba told Parliament's portfolio committee on police on Wednesday that Grace's lawyers had agreed to co-operate with police.

"We were chilling in a hotel room‚ and they were in the room next door‚" Engels said.

Grace was one of Mugabe's secretaries when their affair began in 1987, and they had two children in secret before the president's wife died in 1992.

Engels, who sustained injuries on the front of her forehead, the back of her scalp and more bruises on her body, said she wanted justice to be served.
