President Trump Should Be Afraid of This Climate Change Report

The average temperature in the United States has risen rapidly and drastically since 1980, and recent decades have been the warmest of the past 1,500 years.

Since taking office, the administration has appeared intent on removing the phrase "climate change" from government documents, studies, and even public discussions.

The draft was "leaked" (although "released" is a probably better term to use) due to fears that the Trump administration will attempt to withhold or suppress the report, according to the New York Times.

The climate science report dismisses talk of a climate change "hiatus" and cites increasing evidence that warming can be linked to major weather events. The report found that temperatures could rise by an additional 0.5 degrees Fahrenheit within the next century if current trajectories of carbon emissions continued, the New York Times said.

It also says it is "extremely likely" the majority of global temperature increases in the past 60 years are partially due to human influence. There is, for example, "relatively strong evidence" that climate change - caused by humans - was to blame for a record heat wave in Australia in 2003 and another in Europe.

"I do not believe climate change is a hoax", said Scott Pruitt, the president's pick to head the Environmental Protection Agency during his confirmation hearing.

Next week's episodes (premiering August 15) will feature Alicia Keys and John Legend , plus and Metallica and Billy Eichner . Corden and Ben Winston are the creators and executive producers, along with executive producer Eric Pankowski.

"We have not received any indication yet that it is not on schedule for publication", said Katharine Hayhoe, a professor of political science at Texas Tech University and one of the lead authors of the report.

It follows the removal of climate change pages from the White House website and the scrapping of a series of key green policy initiatives introduced by the previous administration, including the high profile decision by President Trump to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement. We ask that any comments by climate-change denialists be flagged for moderation.

"I think that measuring with precision human activity on the climate is something very challenging to do and there's tremendous disagreement about the degree of impact, so no, I would not agree that it's a primary contributor to the global warming that we see", Pruitt told CNBC. President Trump becoming the savior of intellectual honesty on the right on climate change wouldn't be the weirdest thing to happen in American politics, but it'd be close.

There have been federal government reports in the past that looked at the impacts of climate change in Canada but she said they are not up to date. Meanwhile, the White House is investigating into the matter. Globally, the interconnectedness means sea level has been rising at the fastest rate in about 2,000 years.

Editor's Note (8/9/17): The story below about a federal report, written by one of our partners, Climatewire, was based on a New York Times article that has since been corrected.

Haley said she has not seen the report herself, but sees no reason why the administration would reject the findings from the federal climate scientists.
