Serena Williams pens essay in support of Black Women's Equal Pay Day

Black women are using this day to call out the racial and gender inequality, that leaves black women-the most educated demographic in the nation-earning 67 cents on the dollar relative to white males. This event marks how Black women had to work through all of 2016 and every day leading up to today to catch up with every cent made in 2016 by a White man.

Despite being one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, Serena Williams wrote an essay for Fortune magazine illustrating her thoughts on the matter. Williams asserted in her equal pay letter that "the data doesn't lie" and shows a disturbing pattern of "unfair pay" that has lasted too long and without consequences.

"I've been disrespected by my male colleagues and in the most painful times".

Black women earn 17 percent less than white women, and black women with graduate degrees get paid less at every level, wrote Williams. Just weeks ago, she was the subject of sexist comments by fellow tennis star Joe McEnroe. Crazy, right?! That's 19 months (!) of hard work.

"Respect me and my privacy as I'm trying to have a baby", added the 35-year-old Williams, who had revealed in April that she was expecting her first child. Since few black women are among the top 5 percent of earners in this country, they have experienced the relatively slow wage growth that characterizes growing class inequality along with the vast majority of other Americans.

The former World No.1, now on maternity leave, says that she is financially successful "beyond my imagination" - but adds that had she never picked up a tennis racquet she is well aware of the problems she could be facing. This day shines a light on the long-neglected fact that the gender pay gap hits women of colour the hardest. Ahead of Black Women's Equal Pay Day, Williams partnered with the survey company to conduct her own research on how people perceive the pay gap and the results were disheartening.

There never was a contest - India dominated nearly all sessions of play with the Lankans never having a chance. As well as he has now become the only cricketer to have an average of fifty plus in all three global formats.

Research from the American Association of University Women also found that women of color bear the brunt of student debt, with 54 percent experiencing financial hardships in repayment versus only 24 percent of men.

Almost two-thirds of black women say that major obstacles remain for women in the workplace.

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam victor and one of the highest-paid athletes in tennis, has addressed the issues that black women face in America, publishing her essay on fortune.com on Monday. "In short, it's going to take all of us". This bill would subsequently put a watchful eye on employers and keep them from punishing any employee who might be penalized for seeking equal pay. According to a study she helped initiate, 69 percent of black women are aware of the wage gap, while only 44 percent of white men are.

She continued, saying, "Black women: Be fearless". If you didn't know, now you did.

The 23-times grand slam victor stated that black women had to work eight months longer to earn the same as their male counterparts do in one year. It took me a long time to realize it.
