Stardew Valley Multiplayer Details Revealed, Coming Early 2018

Following a long wait, the team behind Stardew Valley has shared new details regarding the game's upcoming multiplayer patch. Farmhand characters can do nearly anything your main character can do, including marriage, participating in festivals, and various farm tasks.

Shortly after the game starts, Robin will offer to build up to three cabins on your farm, each of which will serve as the home for a farmhand who will be controlled by another player. That means friends can have their own inventories, plant their own crops and even marry whomever they want. Player-to-player marriage is also a planned feature but will work differently to the game's normal method of marrying NPCs. That's been heavily requested, according to the post; how it will work hasn't been decided yet, but it will feature into the update in some way. Being able to farm with your friends was announced back in February when Chucklefish confirmed the game would be coming to the Switch. When a farmhand is not connected, their inventory can be managed through a chest in their cabin.

Player-to-player marriage is still now being looked into. However, certain things can only be done by the main player such as sleeping and when to start or end festivals.

Liverpool back off from Keita deal
RB Leipzig head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl says that he is "100% sure" that Liverpool target Naby Keita will remain at the German club.

Chucklefish said earlier this year that the multiplayer update to Stardew Valley that everyone's looking forward to would not be out this summer, and sorry to say, I'm not here to deliver any happy surprises-that still holds true. The invite mechanism for non-Steam versions is TBD, but likely to be similar in most cases.

So far, 15,000 lines of code have been rewritten as multiplayer is implemented in Stardew Valley. There's no plan to support local multiplayer, split-screen, or PVP, Chucklefish says. However, a multiplayer beta test will be run through Steam at the end of 2017. As they note, "Retrofitting multiplayer into a game that didn't have it originally is notoriously hard". It turns out 2018 is the target for the Windows, Mac, and Linux 1.3 update.

Consoles will get the patch too, starting with Nintendo Switch.
