Transcript of Trump's Terrible January Call With Turnbull Leaks

Donald Trump caused a controversy early in his presidency when he hung up the phone on Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, in a massive affront to diplomatic norms.

Describing himself as a "highly transactional businessman like you", Mr Turnbull was forced to regain control of the conversation a number of times as Mr Trump became increasingly aggrieved.

Mr Trump returned: "This is going to kill me".

Mr Turnbull responded: "That is the point I have been trying to make".

He said it "is a good idea".

Donald Trump's January phone calls with a pair of world leaders are drawing renewed attention now that full transcripts of the calls have been leaked to The Washington Post. "You can certainly say that it was not a deal that you would have done, but you are going to stick with it".

"And now I am agreeing to take 2000 people and I agree I can vet them, but that puts me in a bad position".

"You can count on me", Turnbull said. He goes into a rant about how the Obama administration made "a stupid deal like all the other deals that this country signed".

Trump responded by saying "I hope so" before thanking Turnbull and hanging up.

Trump told the leader of one of America's important economic and military allies that he prefers talking to the autocratic president of a hostile foreign power who is responsible for murders of journalists and political opponents, and who attacked the United States.

Prince Philip to carry out final official engagement
In May The Sun made a similar gaffe when it announced: " Prince Philip dead at 95, how did the Duke of Edinburgh die, etc etc". Jeremy Corbyn applauded his "clear sense of public duty" and Theresa May praised his "steadfast support" to the Queen.

"The only way that I can do this is to say that my predecessor made a deal and I have no option then to honour the deal", Mr Trump said.

However, the refugees from the islands were largely from Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq, and Turnbull reassured Trump during the conversation that because he would still have the authority to vet the refugees, he wouldn't be violating his own executive order.

He added that Australia would act in good faith and allow the U.S. to make its own decisions based on the vetting, as had always been the conditions of the deal.

"As far as I am concerned, that is enough Malcolm", Mr Trump said, ending the call.

The President also boasted of his electoral victory, "They said I had no way to 270 and I got 306 (electoral colleges) and spoke in his trademark blunt style throughout the conversation".

"I have had it", Trump finally said after more back and forth on the issue.

He then went on to make clear that "Putin was a pleasant call".

Mr Trump replied: "Well, it is close. I will be there again and again".

The Washington Post's explosive report also detailed Trump's conversation with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto in which he begged him to stop saying his government would not pay to build a border wall "because I can not live with that".

It's quite obviously a call between an experienced politician (Turnbull) and a political neophyte.
