Rohingya issue: Centre set to file affidavit in Supreme Court

A "deeply concerned" India last week asked Myanmar to handle the situation in the Rakhine state with "maturity and restraint" while focusing on the welfare of the civilian population along with that of the security forces and asserted that it was imperative that violence ends there.

Addressing the rally in front of Baitul Mukarram, leaders of these groups urged Bangladesh Army to make their position over the issue of Rohingya crisis clear.

Many politicians including the Union ministers and ministers from the Assam government had called the Rohingyas illegal immigrants in India and said they could be associated with terrorists and hence are a threat to the security of India.

As per reports, on August 9, the government had told the Parliament that according to available data, more than 14,000 Rohingyas, registered with the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR, are presently staying in India.

The Indian government has described attempts to brand India as a "villain" in the Rohingya Muslims refugee crisis as "a calibrated design to tarnish India's image". Another Minister of State in the Home Ministry, Hansraj Ahir, said on Wednesday that keeping Rohingyas in India will create law and order problems. "Why the BJP government want to send them back".

Turkey signs major missile deal with Russian Federation
It can track and engage up to 300 targets at the same time and has an altitude ceiling of 27 kilometers (17 miles). President Vladimir Putin's military advisor, Vladimir Kozhin confirmed the conclusion of the deal, TASS reports.

The Centre has to file an affidavit in response to a plea filed by two Rohingya immigrants, who claim that they faced persecution in Myanmar, and said the Centre's plan to deport them was in violation of global convention. According to Bangladesh, around 3,000 Rohingya have been killed in the crackdown.

"In that connection we took note of the collective statement by the leading organizations representing Myanmar's multi-ethnic Muslim community who condemned armed actions by radical elements in that region (Rakhine)", Zakharova said."It is essential to remember that the wish to intervene in the internal affairs of a sovereign state may merely bring about further inter-religious discord", she said. "Then why not 40,000 Rohingyas?" he asked.

The government is due to file its affidavit in the Supreme Court in response to a public interest litigation filed by two Rohingya refugees living in India.

The central government on Thursday in their "unfinalised affidavit" had said that Rohingyas pose a security threat to the country. Earlier, minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju had said that while India had absorbed maximum number of refugees anywhere in the world, attempts were being made to demonise India.

The protesters also urged the people of the country to boycott all Myanmar products until its government stopped the oppression of Rohingya.
