Anti-vax mum's son immunised while she's jailed for defying court order

Anti-vax mum's son immunised while she's jailed for defying court order

Rebecca Bredow was last week sentenced for contempt of court almost a year after an Oakland County judge ordered her to have her nine-year-old son vaccinated.

Rebecca Bredow, 40, objects to vaccinations on religious grounds - which is allowed by most USA states - but last year signed a legal agreement with her ex-husband to get their nine-year-old son up to date with his immunisations, reports CBS.

When Bredow was first issued to court order last month, giving her seven days to vaccinate her son or face jail time, she defiantly told local news station WXYZ: "I would rather sit behind bars standing up for what I believe in, than giving in to something I strongly don't believe in". She also granted temporary custody to Horne and ordered the boy to be vaccinated. "It is a case about Ms. Bredow refusing to comport with any number of the court's orders and actively seeking to frustrate Mr. Horne's joint legal custody rights".

She says vaccinations go against her religious beliefs. "But what I don't think you understand is that your son has two parents, and dad gets a say", she said.

Kindle Oasis: Amazon Launches a Water-Resistant E-Reader
Oddly, Amazon has followed in the footsteps of Apple and Google and decided not to equip the device with a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is also a $350 model that offers free cellular connectivity, allowing you to download books without relying on Wi-Fi.

Bredow said it was "against her beliefs" to vaccinate her children. In previous court pleadings, she said that Bredow had consented to getting the shots, meaning her refusal to do so constituted contempt. "If not, you will appear here Wednesday and if you have not, I'll send you to jail".

"I have been the primary caregiver of my child since he was born. Your attorney signed that order", she added at the time of sentencing. "This was not leverage in any way", she said.

The state of MI allows parents to opt out of certain vaccines for non-medical reasons.
