City fires 2 aviation cops involved in dragging man off United flight

According to Ferguson's report, his office's investigation showed that there was "significant confusion" at the Chicago Department of Aviation over the "roles and expectations" of aviation security officers.

The dragging, captured on video by another passenger and spread on social media worldwide, involved Dr. David Dao, who declined to leave a United flight to make way for traveling crew members.

The first officer and the sergeant were fired, and another two officers involved in the incident were suspended - one of whom subsequently resigned, the report said.

Other passengers used their cell phones to record security officers forcibly removing Dao from his seat and dragging him down the aisle of the plane.

Just last month, Southwest Airlines had to apologize after a similar incident in which a woman was dragged off her flight for objecting to another passenger's pet being on the flight.

Dao sued United and reached an undisclosed settlement with the air carrier. United came under fire for how Dao was removed from the flight, as well as for how it initially responded to reports of the incident.

The incident prompted other airlines to reconsider their overbooking policies.

Pregnant Duchess Kate is pretty in pink at surprise public appearance
Then the Duchess, Prince William , Prince Harry , and Paddington Bear all waved goodbye to a train departing from the station. It perfectly fitted the pregnant Duchess, skimming over her petite frame and her tiny baby bump.

It is unfortunate the conduct of these two City aviation employees has resulted in their losing their jobs.

"However, this is not a day of celebration for Dr. Dao, who is neither vindictive nor happy about Mr. Ferguson's findings". Do not state something that is clearly contrary to video viewed by the world.

The officer who dragged Dao off the plane, James Long, filed a report defending his actions, stating Dao "started swinging his arms up and down fast and violently" and then "started flailing his arms and started to fight."

"There is a lesson to be learned here for police officers at all levels", Demetrio said. Also, the Inspector General's report should become the poster child for why passengers should always maintain the right to videotape mistreatment of all kinds.

An investigation by the city's Office of Inspector General found that three aviation security officers and one aviation security sergeant "mishandled" the situation, according to the office's third-quarter report.

The Aviation Department also has said new regulations in training make it clear the Chicago Police Department is the lead agency, not airport security officers, when responding to any reported disturbance at the city's airports, on or off the planes. "Our cellphones are the best deterrent to ensure mistreatment becomes a rarity".

In a report on the incident, United officials said they had allowed internal policies to get in the way of treating passengers with dignity and respect. Again, cellphone footage of the incident went viral.
