Is 'SNL' Live Tonight? When To Watch 'Saturday Night Live' Fall Premiere

As for the musical guest, JAY-Z is always going to be a draw just because of his status as one of the biggest rappers of all time. According to a press statement by NBC, Saturday Night Live delivered its second-highest, most watched premiere in seven years.

Other highlights of the evening included Gosling's opening, which featured a cameo by his La La Land co-star and reigning Best Actress Oscar victor Emma Stone. The comedy sketches are often political in nature and Alec Baldwin's portrayal of the President earned him an Emmy award.

Exactly what SNL was hoping for, presumably, since the show brought back the viral sketch from 2015 that saw Gosling completely break down in the presence of Kate McKinnon describing an alien abduction.

One of the first and last times the two were photographed together was during the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival for said film. And as it turns out, his second time around proved just as hard.

Interviewed in 2013, he gave Wayne Brady , his successor as host, his seal of approval. The late TV presenter also created and produced the show, along with Stefan Hatos.

The kindest thing I can say about Saturday (September 30) night's 43rd Saturday Night Live premiere is that host Ryan Gosling seemed consistently amused. Gosling didn't even try to hide laughter, which actually made the sketch even funnier, as it would be ridiculous to have expected anyone to take it too seriously. Ryan wore a denim jacket, blue chinos and brown brogues while Eva wore a graphic printed dress and platform sandals. In "Papyrus", Gosling played a man haunted by the font for James Cameron's "Avatar"; the kernel of that idea can be found in SNL writer Julio Torres's Twitter feed in May.

Gosling's Larry Fontanelle and his rock and roll jazz flute ended the show on a low note.

Jay-Z performed at Saturday Night Live tonight for their season 43 premiere, his first visit there since 2010.

Comedians Chris Redd, Heidi Gardner and Luke Null are joining the cast this season, following the departure of Bobby Moynihan, Sasheer Zamata and Vanessa Bayer.
