Nissan GT-R driven with PlayStation DualShock controller hits 211km/h

Leading up to the launch of Gran Turismo Sport, Nissan put together a wild stunt that involves Nismo racer and GT Academy victor Jann Mardenborough piloting a full-size remote-controlled GT-R around a race track from a helicopter.

Nissan have revealed that they've managed to achieve every racing video game fan's dream: a controller operated vehicle which can hit speeds of 130mph.

Mardenborough, 26, sat in the cockpit of a helicopter as he tailed the Nissan GT-R around the home of racing on the Bucks and Northamptonshire border.

The GT-R /C, as it has been named, has been modified by United Kingdom firm JLB Design with mechanical parts to control the steering, throttle and brakes, as well as the gear selector, so it can be driven externally without anyone on board. On Mardenborough's fastest lap (1:17:47), the GT-R /C averaged 76 mph/122 kph and reached a top speed of 131 mph/211 kph.

The Nissan GT-R/C, as the name suggests, is a full size, remotely controllable Nissan GT-R racecar.

Trump threatens to challenge media's broadcast licenses
Trump lashed out at NBC News over a report indicating that he'd called for a drastic expansion of the US nuclear arsenal. U.S. news reports have painted the relationship between Trump and Tillerson as tense.

Gran Turismo Sport is due to be released on October 17-barring any unforeseen six-year delays.

As explained on Jalopnik, the DualShock 4 controller was connected to a microcomputer that transmitted signals to the GT-R/C.

The one-off project auto was based on a 2011 Nissan R35 GT-R, a factory-stock vehicle rather than a dedicated racing variant or a hotted-up NISMO. The unmodified PlayStation DualShock 4 controller was then connected to a micro-computer that interprets the controller inputs and transmits them to the auto. Driving a full-size, remote-control GT-R to 131 miles per hour at Silverstone whilst chasing it down in a helicopter was an unforgettable experience. The GT-R /C has brought my two worlds together - the virtual of gaming and the reality of motorsport - in a way I never thought possible.

"This was once-in-a-lifetime, truly epic stuff", said the current full-time racer. As a victor of the Nissan GT Academy competition that combines virtual racing with actual track races, Mardenborough was a natural choice for the task.

Next year the GT-R/C will be used on a tour of primary and secondary schools in the United Kingdom to promote future careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
