Disney streaming service to cost much less than a Netflix subscription

Disney streaming service to cost much less than a Netflix subscription

Not only will Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel Studios films and series all now live on the proposed site, but new content will be developed exclusively for it. Fans were mixed on the possibilities, but one big question emerged: will Netflix lose its Marvel TV shows?

Shares of Disney rose more than 2% on Friday, reversing late losses from the night before after the company's management touted its plans for a new streaming service that will undercut rival Netflix on pricing.

Mr. Iger also provided some information on pricing for the service, saying it will be "substantially below" that of Netflix Inc. because it will start with "substantially less volume".

A wicked hurricane season, falling advertising sales and a cancelled movie sapped fourth-quarter profit at Disney, the company said, leading to the first drop in annual results since the financial crisis nearly a decade ago. "We can't wait to continue with this new series of films". The series was originally ordered for the ABC Family.

But it seems Disney's streaming service, which is set to debut in 2019, is going to make waves as soon as it drops thanks to some huge content additions.

The Disney streaming platform is expected to launch in 2019. However, don't get too excited about seeing Deadpool tussle with the Hulk as a new report from the Wall Street Journal confirms that these talks are now officially dead. This new service will feature a way to only showcase Disney branded content.

Google readying Android app to manage storage, share files without internet
We are not sure of all of the features yet, but we got a glimpse of what is in store thanks to the test release on Google Play . It's billed primarily as a file management app, letting users quickly locate content on their devices in one spot.

But Netflix already faces a lot of competitors, including Amazon.com (AMZN), Hulu and CBS (CBS).

Device support is unclear, though Disney has referred to the upcoming service as an "app" on several occasions, suggesting it could be streamed to smartphones, tablets, computers, TVs, and other internet-connected devices capable of running applications.

Where will it be available?

A subscription costs £4.99 per month, and now, there are no plans to launch DisneyLife outside of Europe.

The launch of this new service is still two years away, so we're obviously still waiting for more information. Netflix ended the September quarter with 109.25 million streaming subscribers worldwide, including 52.77 million in the US and 56.48 million in global markets.

Disney's movie studio was hurt by the underperformance of "Cars 3" and a write-off of almost $98 million on the animated movie "Gigantic", which was previously scheduled for 2020 but was cancelled.
