Fidget Spinners causing safety concerns again, lead found

Fidget Spinners causing safety concerns again, lead found

If you're planning to gift a fidget spinner this holiday season, take heed - the US Public Interest Research Group has found dangerously high levels of lead in some spinners sold at Target.

The U.S. Public Interest Research Group (U.S. PIRG) said Wednesday that two variants of the Fidget Wild Premium Spinner products surpassed the federal legal limits for lead in toys. For the "Fidget Wild Premium Spinner Brass", the center circle tested for 33,000 ppm of lead, and the arm tested for 22,000 ppm of lead. The center of the metal version of the same spinner tested for 1,300 ppm of lead. The reason? It along with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the manufacturer, Bulls-I-Toy, say the products aren't required to meet lead safety requirements because they are not technically designed for children.

Due to its harmful effects on child development, federal laws limit the amount of lead in children's products to 100 ppm of total lead content.

CBS News reports that the gadgets are being sold in the toy aisles alongside the spinners sold to 6-year-olds. In a legal sense, lead regulations only refer to toys that are marketed for children 12 and under.

CoPIRGreport that when Target and the toy's distributor, Bulls i Toy, were alerted to the findings, they refused to address the problem.

Robert Mueller has proof to charge Micheal Flynn
Other media sources are jumping on the report to say it's a sign Mueller "is closing in on the White House". It remained unclear Sunday if Mueller had plans to pursue charges against Flynn or his son.

Kids find fidget spinners fun and somewhat addictive. "All of our product are tested and comply with [Consumer Product Safety Commission] safety standards". That's because the two Fidget Wild Premium Spinner varieties are labeled for those age 14+.

Lead exposure can be extremely unsafe for children, potentially impacting mental development among other risks.

He went on to say that Target has received the lead testing results.

If you've purchased these toys and are anxious about lead exposure, U.S. PIRG is advising consumers to stop using the two fidget spinner models immediately, and to place them in a bag out of reach of children.

"The two fidget spinners cited in their letter are clearly marked on the package as 'appropriate for customers ages 14 and older, ' and are not marketed to children".
