North Korea Slams President Trump

The ongoing war of words has kept several countries on its toes, including the likes of South Korea, Japan, China and Russian Federation.

In the first comments on Mr Trump's visit by a North Korean official, a Pyongyang foreign ministry spokesman said it was a "warmonger's visit for confrontation to rid" North Korea of its self-defensive nuclear deterrence, the state-run KCNA news agency reported.

The US and South Korea on Saturday started joint naval exercises that will involve three US aircraft carriers in what military officials describe as a clear warning to North Korea.

The three flattops - USS Ronald Reagan, USS Nimitz and USS Theodore Roosevelt - will sail one by one into the waters east of Korea for the four-day drill. That, according to Pyongyang, only encourages North Korea to "speed up" completing its nuclear armed forces.

Also to be mobilized are 11 U.S. Aegis ships and seven South Korean warships.

"The training is aimed at restraining North Korea's nuclear and missile provocations and showing our military's strong willingness to act and military preparedness", the JCS said, quoted in the local press. The Aegis technology refers to missile tracking and guidance.

Trump said in a speech at South Korea's parliament Wednesday, "Currently stationed in the vicinity of this peninsula are the three largest aircraft carriers in the world loaded to the maximum with magnificent F-35 and F-18 fighter jets".

The U.S. Navy's previous training operation involving three carriers was in the vicinity of Guam in the Western Pacific in 2007 during the Valiant Shield exercise.

The region, he added, must "stand united in declaring that every single step the North Korean regime takes toward more weapons is a step it takes into greater and greater danger".

Tensions between Washington and Pyongyang have escalated after North Korea's test firing of missiles and conducting its most powerful hydrogen test in September.
