Sen. Rand Paul assaulted at Kentucky home Friday

Kentucky State Police says the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now investigating to see if the assault was politically motivated.

"KSP Troopers responded to the residence of Rand Paul in Warren County, in reference to a report of an assault".

Kelsey Cooper, Paul's Kentucky communications director, said in a statement: "Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault".

Police released few details about the assault or what led to the confrontation between Paul and the 59-year-old suspect arrested in the incident. She did not elaborate on the details of the assault or the extent of Paul's injuries, only saying that he was "fine". Stay with 8News online and on air for the latest updates. The Daily Caller reports that Boucher appears to be a registered Democrat. Due to Boucher's attack, the Republican senator has suffered "minor injury".

Senator Rand Paul was at his Kentucky home in Bowling Green mowing the lawn when suddenly he was attacked out of the blue, reportedly by a neighbor who is now in police custody. That is a misdemeanor.

It is not known if Senator Paul knew his attacker.

Records show Boucher's home is also in Bowling Green. He is being held at Warren County's jail on $5,000 bond.
