Three Coffees a Day Brings More Health than Harm

A lot has been said about the health implications of coffee-drinking, but the latest research suggests three to four cups a day could be good for you.

"The link between coffee drinking and reduced risk of development of heart failure and stroke was consistently noted in all three studies", said lead author of the project Dr. Laura Stevens.

Experts said it is the largest ever study looking at coffee consumption and health.

"But there is the possibility that the association with better health is due to something else that coffee drinkers are more likely to do". "There is a balance of risks in life, and the benefits of moderate consumption of coffee seem to outweigh the risks".

While most researchers can not agree on a definitive list to detail the benefits of coffee, they point out that three cups a day is a safe bet.

However, Eliseo Guallar of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health said, "Doctors should not recommend drinking coffee to prevent disease - and people should not start drinking coffee for health reasons as there is substantial uncertainty about the effects of higher levels of intake".

Coffee is the most loved and desired drink consumed throughout the world. They gathered observational data on the impact of coffee on all aspects of the human body and published the results in the British Medical Journal Tuesday.

Those who don't drink coffee are found to have lower risks of premature death, especially those who drink up to three cups a day.

Dr Chris Alford, associate professor in applied psychology at the University of the West of England, also highlighted the caveat for pregnant women, pointing out "potential adverse effects observed in pregnancy were far higher compared to lower coffee consumption". To better comprehend its benefits Robin Poole-A Health Specialist at the University of Southampton-Britain conducted a research in an "umbrella review" of two hundred and one studies based on observational findings and seventeen studies based on clinical analysis throughout different countries and all cultures.

But it's not all doom and gloom for coffee lovers. Do you personally think drinking three to four cups of coffee per day can be healthy?
