Vols In Talks With New Head Coach

It is being reported that Greg Schiano and Tennessee are close to a deal for Schiano to become the next head coach of the Vols, but that report has not been well received by numerous Tennessee fans. Sources said the deal has been agreed on, and just needs final signatures.

Tennessee is seeking a new coach after the November 12 firing of Butch Jones, who went 34-27 overall and 14-24 in Southeastern Conference competition in five seasons.

Schiano brings a pedigree as a program builder, as he resurrected Rutgers from a century of bad football to make them a nationally competitive program. He had a run of success at Rutgers, posting a 68-67 record as the Scarlet Knights' head coach from 2001-2011.

Naturally, this meant that head coach Butch Jones was out on his ass before the season even ended, replaced by interim coach and MI failure Brady Hoke.

Ex-college, National Football League coach Kelly mulls Florida, UCLA jobs
Kelly, 53, reportedly met with Florida officials on Sunday about their coaching vacancy and could be pursued by other schools. Yahoo Sports reports that Florida has expanded its search to give themselves a backup plan if they don't land Kelly.

Schiano, 51, is now the defensive coordinator at Ohio State.

After going from Rutgers to the NFL, Schiano wasn't almost as effective.

Schiano developed a relationship with Currie when he was out of coaching for two seasons following his short tenure in Tampa. He spent two seasons with Tampa Bay and went 11-21 before getting the ax after the 2013 season.
