Arrest made in connection to NC Amber Alert case

On Friday, Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller said he was "overwhelmed" by the outpouring of support from the community and nearby military members, who came out to assist in the search for Mariah.

Authorities said they have not yet located Mariah's body, and the missing persons search that included Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and K-9 units will now shift to a recovery effort.

Arrest warrants say a man took the body of his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter from where she died, knowing her death was not natural. Kimrey is being held in the Onslow County Detention Center under a $1,010,000 bond.

Officials said 730 volunteers participated in a search for Mariah on Friday.

Saturday afternoon, officials said they were still searching for Mariah Woods, but believed she was dead.

Her mother told investigators she last saw Mariah Sunday, and Kimrey saw her later that night. She said her boyfriend saw the child at about midnight when she got up and he told her to go back to bed.

People with surveillance footage near where a 3-year-old girl disappeared in eastern North Carolina are being urged to call police and share the video as they investigate the girl's death.

Kristy, who this week disabled her Facebook account after posting the missing person's appeal for her daughter, claimed that Mariah was taken by a stranger. The FBI also joined the search for Mariah.

The FBI says they have been sending "items of interest" to their lab in Quantico, Virginia, for priority testing in the case. Earlier Wednesday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation released surveillance photos of a woman and a little girl who matched Mariah's description, in hopes of identifying the pair.

Residents were moved to action following Woods' public appeals for help in the search for her "very sweet, loving girl" with blue eyes and long brown hair. "She's my baby. She's my everything". Marines based at nearby Camp Lejeune are also assisting in the search.

Authorities have been searching for Mariah, who was reported missing from her home on Monday. The missing child's case has shifted to a homicide case.
