Facebook improves how blind can 'see' images using AI

"Facebook launched a new facial recognition feature called Photo Review that will alert you when your face shows up in newly posted photos so you can tag yourself, leave it be, ask the uploader to take the photo down, or report it to Facebook".

"We want people to feel confident when they post pictures of themselves on Facebook so we'll soon begin using face recognition technology to let people know when someone else uploads a photo of them as their profile picture", Joaquin Quinonero Candela, Director, Applied Machine Learning, said in a blog post on Wednesday.

With the roll out of new facial recognition technology, Facebook is making it easier to delete the face template and opt out of Photo Review feature.

The idea is that from now on, whenever someone uploads a picture of you in it, whether it be your Aunt who doesn't care if you look awful in that group photo or someone from your high school uploading a picture from 20 years ago, you'll know about it. Soon, you will begin to see a simple on/off switch instead of settings for individual features that use face recognition technology. This is a move to curb impersonations, which are already prohibited but can be hard to find. Google has upped its interest in facial recognition as well, and also introduced features into its photo service that group photos by person.

The Redmi Note 4 variant with double the storage will also be getting a generous Rs 1,000 discount during the sale. Similarly, Hungama is also offering Humgama Play and Hungama Music for 3 months and 12 months, respectively.

Facebook has been using face recognition technology to connect people and offer tag suggestions since 2010. Every time a photo or video gets uploaded to its system, Facebook compares those images with the template to alert users.

The newest features start rolling out Tuesday, in all markets where facial recognition features are now allowed on Facebook.

While the new tool does raise some privacy concerns, Facebook says it will not use facial recognition to better target advertisements. Facebook users should be notified through the news feeds about the new feature, and the company will encourage everyone to check their own settings.

The latest features will apply only to new photos being uploaded to the site and will not scan through older photos.
