Iran says US evidence on Yemen missiles is 'fabricated'

Standing before an exhausted missile that Washington says was made in Iran, shipped to Yemen and fired at Riyadh's global airport, Nikki Haley, the American ambassador to the United Nations, declassified the U.S. government's findings of Iran's military activities in the region on Thursday, warning of its rapid expansion and broad ambitions.

But Mr Haley said several technical details - the absence of stabiliser fins and a series of valves on the side - marked the missile as Iranian-made.

Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif hit back at USA claims over the Islamic Republic's missile support for Yemen.

Iran's mission to the United Nations said the evidence was "fabricated" to serve a U.S. agenda.

A confidential report to the council says United Nations officials had examined debris from missiles fired at Saudi Arabia which pointed to a "common origin" but there was no firm conclusion as to whether they came from an Iranian supplier.

Haley will discuss what the mission called Iran's "ongoing destabilizing activities in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world".

The so-called proof that Haley presented was "fabricated".

In a speech in a warehouse at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in the USA capital, Haley said the U.S. intelligence community has uniformly and unequivocally assessed that Iran is supplying arms to Houthi rebels in Yemen illegally, against a series of UN Security Council resolutions restricting its export of arms and missiles.

The crisis has deteriorated under Saudi Arabia's month-long blockade of desperately needed aid supplies in Yemen, where almost 70 percent of the population depends on foreign aid to survive.

Trump announced a new strategy to address the totality of Iranian threats and malign activities: "nuclear; ballistic missile development and proliferation; counter-maritime operations; cyber; and support to terrorism and unconventional warfare", said Laura Seal, a Defence Department spokesperson.

Iran "categorically" rejects the accusation "as unfounded and, at the same time, irresponsible, provocative and destructive", Miryousefi said in a statement. "The US government has an agenda and is constantly at work to deceive the public into believing the cases they put together to advance it".

The US envoy to the UN, Nikki Haley, is dancing to Israel's tune as she calls for a Western coalition against Iran while posing in front of a missile's wreckage, former Central Intelligence Agency officer Ray McGovern told RT, saying the spectacle was aimed at distracting attention from Yemen. The UN has revealed in a report that these missiles appear to have been designed by Iran.

A missile that the U.S. Department of Defense says is confirmed as a "Qiam" ballistic missile manufactured in Iran by its distinctively Iranian nine fueling ports and that the Pentagon says was sacked by Houthi rebels from Yemen into Saudi Arabia on July 22, 2017 is seen on display at a military base in Washington on December 13, 2017.
