Kulbhushan Jadhav to meet mother, wife on December 25

Kulbhushan Jadhav to meet mother, wife on December 25

In a good news from Kulbhushan Yadav's vault, Pakistan has allowed him to meet his wife and mother on December 25. The ICJ halted his execution on India's appeal pending its final verdict.

An official from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad will also be allowed to be present at the meeting, Pakistani foreign office spokesman Dr Mohammad Faisal said. During his weekly news briefing, the spokesman said a staff member from the Indian High Commission will also be in attendance during the meeting. He said full security would be provided during the meeting.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that she had informed Avantika Jadhav, the mother, about Pakistan's decision to grant her and his wife visa.

Kulbhushan Jadhav, now lodged in a Pakistani jail on charges of espionage, has been allowed to meet with his family members from India by the Pakistani government.

A military court in Pakistan had in April this year sentenced Jadhav, a former navy man, to death on the charge of his alleged involvement in espionage and terror attacks.

India had asked for "sovereign guarantee" from Pakistan that it would ensure safety and security of Jadhav's wife and mother.

India described the development as "positive", but it was not sure whether allowing the diplomat to accompany the family of Jadhav would amount to consular access or not. Jadhav has filed a clemency appeal with Pakistan's Army chief, which is pending. Earlier Pakistan had agreed to give visa only to the wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav.

India protested against the sentencing, denying all the allegations against Jadhav, however, could not able secure counsellor access to Jadhav.

Pakistan alleges that Jadhav was involved in espionage and sabotage activities in Karachi and Balochistan. Pakistan will submit counter-memorial on or before December 13, 2017.

Jadhav had confessed to the charges in a video which was posted online by Pakistan Army days after his arrest a year ago.
