Man charged in death of 3-year-old Mariah Woods faces judge

Authorities have arrested Earl Kimrey, 32, in connection with the disappearance of 3-year-old Mariah Woods, a North Carolina girl who went missing November 27. A warrant obtained said that Kimrey obstructed justice by "removing Mariah Woods' body from the scene of her death and did hide Mariah Woods' death and body, knowing that Mariah Woods died from unnatural causes".

A judge maintained 32-year-old Earl Kimrey's bond at $1 million as Kimrey made his first appearance Monday at a hearing in Jacksonville.

Kimrey is charged with concealing of death, obstruction of justice, burglary, felony larceny and possession of stolen property.

"Due to evidence gathered during the course of the investigation, it is believed that Mariah is deceased", the sheriff's office said before the body was found.

Meanwhile, in Jacksonville, the memorial for Mariah Woods grows and a community reaches out to one another.

Earlier this week, Miller asked members of the community who were willing to comb through hard terrain to meet at the Dawson Community Church Friday morning. "I'll do anything that I can, whatever you want", she told WNCN last week. "I told her I loved her and she loved me".

"It's impacting our children", community member Anna Rust said. "We just have to hold onto our kids and watch over them". "[.] Just to be able to touch her and hold her and not let her go again", she said.

Additional resources were allocated to help conduct interviews and searches for the little girl, including boats from the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries as well as police canines and horses from neighboring agencies, Miller said.

"My main concern was hoping to bring this little girl home". "Whoever is involved in the crime, whoever did this to her, justice needs to be served for them, for her, so that she can rest peacefully". They have not said if others could be charged in the case. "The focus of this investigation has changed from a missing child to a homicide case".
