'All signs' pointing to Matt Patricia as Giants head coach

'All signs' pointing to Matt Patricia as Giants head coach

Patricia was on the sidelines for both of them, first as the Patriots' linebackers coach and then as their safeties coach. But a favorite has reportedly emerged through the interview process.

According to the New York Daily News, all signs point to Patricia becoming the next coach of the Giants.

According to Peter King, Patricia actually favors the head coaching vacancy for the New York Giants over the Lions.

Gettleman made his philosophy clear at his introductory press conference late last month, via New York's team website. Matthew Stafford is an established quarterback and the Lions team as a whole seems much closer to contending for a Super Bowl than the Giants do. "So, I truly believe in that".

The Giants cannot officially come to terms on a contract with Patricia until New England's season comes to an end. King also noted that if Patricia does go to the Giants that Houston Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel could be the Lions next choice. The Patriots host the Tennessee Titans in the divisional round of the playoffs this Saturday.

Jon Gruden is the Raiders coach
The Buccaneers ended the 2008 season with four losses in a row, and Gruden was sacked following the season. Gruden has been gathering a coaching staff in advance of Tuesday's expected announcement.

King adds that Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks and Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur also remain very much in play.

It certainly looks like the New England Patriots will be losing their defensive coordinator.

Players love Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, who interviewed with the Giants on Tuesday, and he could be the calming guy to fix a divided and mercenary NY team.

The Giants averaged just 15.4 points per game during the 2017 season.

On Wednesday, Leonard reported that "all signs" pointed to the Giants hiring the Super Bowl-winning defensive coordinator. In 2005, he became assistant offensive line coach before he moved to coaching linebackers from 2006 to 2010.
