Jimmy Iovine Reportedly Leaving Apple Music Chief Executive Position In August

Now that the shares from that rumored $3 billion sale are set to be vested, Jimmy is rumored to be on the way out.

Apple Music chief executive Jimmy Iovine, who moved to Apple through the company's acquisition of headphone maker Beats, will reportedly leave later this year.

Iovine, a longtime record-label executive, is also the co-founder of Interscope Records, which became Interscope Geffen A&M after a merger in 1999.

Hits Daily Double reported Iovine's impending departure earlier Thursday.

Iovine, who did not have a title at Apple Music, saw Apple Music grow into a music-streaming powerhouse. Iovine and Dr. Dre joined Apple as employees as part of the deal. Apple Music is doing well with 30 million paying subscribers, even if it is well behind the segment leaders like Spotify.

Egyptian soccer star Mohamed Salah named African Player of the Year
The club of the year award went to FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017 participants Wydad Casablanca. Salah's victory capped a clean sweep of the three main African football awards for Egypt .

Spotify just announced that it now has 70 million paid subscribers, expanding its lead over Apple Music.

Last month, to better its music streaming service, Apple acquired Shazam, a British software company behind a popular music tagging and recognition app. Apple has integrated the Shazam music recognition feature into Siri Voice.

Apple declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Billboard.

Streaming music is a dillema he has been trying to solve for some time. Experiments like Carpool Karaoke have not made a significant impact on the market, though Iovine's efforts to push curated music and other perks are laudable to music obsessives. He has worked as a recording engineer with legends like John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen, and as a producer for big acts like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Patti Smith, and U2.
