Mike Vrabel Early Favorite To Land Titans' Head Coaching Job

Mike Vrabel Early Favorite To Land Titans' Head Coaching Job

The Tennessee Titans have agreed to a deal that will make Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel their next head coach, the team announced on Saturday. "Mike has a commanding presence and a deep knowledge for how he will attack this head coaching opportunity". Prior to that, Day coached at Boston College and Temple.

I have to believe that Vrabel went into his Titans interview with a clear strategy on assembling a coaching staff, as this will be the first time he's had to hire people, another cause for concern if I'm a Titans fan.

Here are a few options I expect Vrabel to consider. He started coaching in 2011 at OH state, his alma mater. Everything we do is going to be geared towards winning and being physical.

If the Tennessee Titans' evaluation process in hiring their next head coach is any indicator, the Texans are not alone in essentially erasing their 4-12 record and all of its fallout from existence. He spent the first nine years of his career at the collegiate level (mostly bouncing around the Ivy League), before landing with the New York Giants in 2007 as an offensive quality control coach. Vrabel has worked with a wide array of talent in Houston and quickly built up a name as a rock solid coach.

Before being hired at Ohio State, Day served one season each as the Eagles' quarterbacks coach and the 49ers' quarterbacks coach (both jobs were under Chip Kelly - they have a New Hampshire connection). Nonetheless, the Titans still cleaned house upon being ousted from Super Bowl contention by the New England Patriots. "We want to prepare our players so they know what to do, which will allow them to play fast and aggressive". "He was the ultimate team-first player and he embodies that same mindset as a coach". And while many expected the Titans to pursue Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in order to further develop quarterback Marcus Mariota, it appears that McDaniels is set to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Playing in the National Football League for 14 years should give him instant credibility and respect with his players.

The Tennessee Titans not only reached the postseason in 2017-18, but the AFC South franchise even won a playoff game.
