One tourist killed, 12 injured in hot-air balloon crash in Egypt

Luxor Governor Mohammed Sayed Badr confirmed the accident, adding he was already at the hospital checking on those injured in the accident. The tourist who died was South African.

The sightseeing balloon was carrying 21 tourists of various nationalities at the time.

Hot air balloon crashes have occurred in the region before. According to Egyptian local news outlet Ahram Online, the dead tourist was a US citizen.

The balloon was travelling over the ancient city when it was forced off course and into a mountainous area by strong winds, according to reports. No other details regarding the incident were available, KLMTY reported.

Buhari congratulates George Weah
With this, Weah will serve as the 25th president of Liberia with effect from the third working Monday of January. The former FIFA World Player of the Year played with AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, among others.

Sixteen people were injured in a Luxor hot air balloon flight in 2011 as well.

The incident comes after 19 people - mostly Asian and European tourists - were killed near the same city in a hot air balloon crash in 2013, when it caught fire in a mid-air gas explosion.

The hot air balloons also offer views of the Valley of the Kings, where pharaonic nobility were buried. Balloon flights were grounded for two months after that accident.

Currently, Egypt is witnessing unstable weather conditions.
