Valencia agree £12m Francis Coquelin fee with Arsenal

The Gunners midfielder has fallen down the pecking order under Arsene Wenger this season.

Francis Coquelin is leaving Arsenal after nearly a decade at the club following the agreement of a £12 million transfer to Valencia.

Coquelin, who has previously spent time on loan at Lorient and Freiburg, was left out of Wenger's 18-man squad for their FA Cup third round defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. However, Valencia moved quickly to take the combative midfielder to the Mestalla.

However, earlier this week Cadena Ser reported that Valencia were also ready to join the battle after Marcelino already considered his arrival during the last summer transfer window.

Another English club which The Mirror report to be interested in Coquelin are Crystal Palace.

West Ham are looking at Arsenal midfield duo Mohammed Elneny and Francis Coquelin as their search for a new central midfielder continues.

The duo have been used sparingly by manager Arsene Wenger in the PremierLeague this season, with Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey his preferred pairing in midfield.

Coquelin has been in and out of the Arsenal first team due to his injuries.

The Frenchman has been at Arsenal since joining from Stade Lavallois as a 17-year-old in July 2008 following a successful trial.
