Boko Haram gunmen attack Dapchi council headquarters

Boko Haram gunmen attack Dapchi council headquarters

In scenes eerily similar to the Chibok kidnapping of more than 200 girls four years ago, a convoy of fighters descended on a village in Yobe state late yesterday.

A total of 276 students were seized from the Government Girls Secondary School in the remote town in Borno state.

NAN recalls that there were fears on Monday over the safety of students of the school in Bursari Local Government area of Yobe State over the reported presence of insurgents in the area.

In another report published by Daily Trust, a source in the school reportedly claim that the number of missing students was established in the afternoon after a head count.

However, some parents say more than 51 girls are still missing. We are still searching for the remaining 94 students.

He went on: "Let me tell you that as of now we do not have any information regarding abduction of any of the students by the Boko Haram sect".

"As we were trying to flee the village, we saw some of them coming away from the school gate".

Our correspondent gathered from Dapchi residents that there was no casualty recorded and no injury sustained as the terrorists sporadically shot in the air to scare people away when they arrived in the town.

He said, "You must not allow them to escape".

The jihadists came into the town, firing guns and letting off explosives, causing students and teachers to flee into the surrounding bush.

The attack comes as Nigeria's military continues its raid on what's left of the militants hideouts in the Northeast.

Last September, a group of more than 100 of the Chibok girls were reunited with their families at a party in Abuja.

Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, has once again escaped from being captured by men of the Nigerian Army, according to BBC. Tens of thousands have died in years of fighting between the group and government forces.
