Canada PM visits Partition Museum in Amritsar

There are almost half-a-million Sikhs in Canada and three Sikh-Canadians in Mr Trudeau's cabinet including defence minister Harjit Sajjan, whose father was a member of the World Sikh Organisation.

Singh had refused to meet Canada's defence minister Harjit Singh Sajjan during his visit to India in April.

The Chief Minister handed over a list of nine Category "A" Canada-based operatives alleged to be involved in hate crimes in Punjab by financing and supplying weapons for terrorist activities, and also engaged in trying to radicalise youth and children in Punjab.

"The Khalistan issue, which has kept India-Canada ties on ice through three decades from 1980, has resurfaced, taking away much of the warmth" during Trudeau's visit, the Hindu daily said yesterday.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is on a week-long visit to India, met a host of Bollywood celebrities and businessmen in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Trudeau, on his part, had famously quipped during his USA visit in 2017 that he has more Sikhs in his cabinet than Prime Minister Modi.

But Ferry de Kerckhove at the University of Ottawa says a more likely reason President Narendra Modi has avoided greeting Canada's Liberal prime minister with open arms may be because the two men don't remotely share the same world view.

S. Korea to resume joint military drills with US
A US Forces Korea spokesman confirmed the position to Agence France-Presse. North Korea has won positive press for their Olympic diplomatic maneuvers.

Ironically, Trudeau's visit was meant to mend fences with India, given that India has made clear its disapproval of Trudeau's appeasement of Sikh separatists.

Capt Amarinder Singh has also claimed that he had taken up with the PM issues of trade and agriculture development for which Trudeau has given a promise. It has gone viral and I am getting calls from overseas from people interested in buying it.

In India, the Sikhs are 1.72 of the country's population.

"We also spoke about Canadian companies investing in India, whether it is pension funds or others", he said.

PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Trudeau on February 23 following which a number of agreements are expected to be signed. "India values its relationship with Canada highly".

Trudeau might plead that the exigencies of electoral politics oblige him to pander to the extremists openly rooting for Khalistan, but any other leader in his place would not have jeopardised Indo-Canadian relations for the sake of a few votes.

Earlier in the day, Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu expressed confidence that the meeting would not only strengthen the ties between both the countries but would also help to transform them.
