Detroit Pistons trade for Jameer Nelson, James Ennis, reports say

The Pistons made a pair of shrewd deals ahead of Thursday's trade deadline - getting veteran guard Jameer Nelson from the Chicago Bulls for Reed and small forward James Ennis from the Memphis Grizzlies for Johnson - to restock their reserves.

While the Cavaliers were busy dominating the headlines leading up to the National Basketball Association trade deadline, other teams also were making deals.

In addition, the Pistons and Bulls will be swapping second-round draft picks in 2022. According to Vincent Goodwill of NBC Sports Chicago, the Bulls will waive the 27-year-old center, freeing up a little bit of cap space going forward. He hasn't played since. He was recently acquired by the Pistons as part of the deal with the Clippers in which star Blake Griffin was sent to Detroit.

LeBron James: I Would Never Waive My No-Trade Clause
James has a player option for the 18-19 season that he's been expected to decline to become a free agent. It remains to be seen if they can ride the momentum of the thrilling victory moving forward.

Reed, acquired last week from the Los Angeles Clippers in the Blake Griffin trade, on Wednesday began serving a six-game National Basketball Association suspension for a domestic violence incident in August. Just this past week the Pistons have acquired their much-needed superstar in Blake Griffin and are now starting to put more depth around him.

Though his name is bigger than his current production, Nelson should be a solid addition for a Pistons team that's thin at point guard due to Reggie Jackson's injury. Since the deal was announced, the Pistons have turned an eight-game losing streak into a five-game winning streak and jumped back in the playoff picture.

Ennis is averaging almost seven points and three and a half rebounds per contest with the Grizzlies. He played in three games for the Pistons, making his only shot attempt in 9 total minutes. He was a first-round pick in the 2016 draft by the Clippers, but has played less than 50 minutes in his National Basketball Association career. Nelson averaged 20.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.0 steals as a senior in 32 games.
