Lewandowski: Dems Created 'Partisan Issue' With Nunes Memo Rebuttal

Nunes, for his part, said it was "no surprise" that the Schiff memo wasn't released, given its lack of redactions.

But Mr McGahn said the Democratic memo "contains numerous properly classified and especially sensitive passages".

The dueling memos relate to claims by Republicans that the Federal Bureau of Investigation abused its powers in obtaining a warrant for the surveillance of Trump campaign foreign policy aide Carter Page in the secret FISA court process. She said in a statement that his decision was "part of a unsafe and desperate pattern of cover-up on the part of the president".

House Intelligence Committee Chief Devin Nunes urged Democrats on Friday, to make the appropriate technical changes and redactions to the classified document.

The counsel cited "significant concerns" raised by the department of justice about revelations in the memo as the reason for not allowing it to be declassified.

But it's not clear whether Republicans will be willing to take that step, and the GOP committee members were hesitant about defying Trump on the memo earlier this week. "The rationale for releasing the Nunes memo, transparency, vanishes when it could show information that's harmful to him", Schumer said in a statement.

"If the president really believes the Nunes memo vindicates him, as he has said, what is he hiding by blocking the (Democratic) memo?" The White House said the Democrats' response had too much secret information.

Nunes also supports Trump's decision to block Schiff's memo even though he wanted to release his original one.

SNAP program would be replaced with meal kits, according to Trump proposal
The USDA estimated it would save $129 billion over a decade, driven in part by the government's unique purchasing power. The President said that any household qualifying for more than $90 in food stamps , would receive the new boxes.

Trump reportedly believed the report would help him undercut special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe.

The Democratic memo is expected to deliver a detailed, point-by-point rebuttal of the claims in the GOP memo.

The White House announced Friday night (translation: news-dump o'clock) it would not immediately approve the release of the Democratic memo. The president says that he would like to give an interview to Bob Mueller, but his lawyers may be saying, oh, but as much as he would like to, he just can't do it.

Sen. Chuck Schumer of NY, the top Senate Democrat, said bluntly, "Millions of Americans are asking one simple question: What is he hiding?"

"This is an American disgrace!" the president tweeted February 3, one day after the Nunes memo was released.

The president has recently ratcheted up his criticisms of the FBI's handling of probes into Hillary Clinton's email server and has called the House Intelligence Committee's investigations into possible Russian meddling in the 2016 election a witch hunt.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) pulled no punches on Trump as he characterized the president's decision as the hypocritical act of a man who places his own personal interests above national security.

In this case, by contrast, the White House wasn't almost so eager to commit to a memo's release and is now suggesting it is bowing to concerns from the very same federal law enforcement entities whose objections it disregarded last time.
