System to bring state several inches of rain, chance for flooding

The National Weather Service says we could see periods of excessive heavy rainfall that could result in flash flooding.

More rain and storms are expected Tuesday afternoon and evening, which will increase flood concerns.

There is the potential for flooding rains across Hunt County and much of North Texas today and Wednesday.

That wintry mix will carry us through the morning commute on Wednesday, but no major accumulations of sleet or ice are expected.

The National Weather Service in the Quad-Cities has instituted a flood watch for the Gateway area. The Red Cedar River is expected to peak at 9.5 feet.

According to the National Weather Service, the combination of heavy rain and melting snow will cause flooding along some rivers in northern IL and northwest Indiana. A flood watch for the same area was in effect through 6 p.m. Tuesday. If you see a large area of flooding on a road, don't drive across it.

- Avoid already flooded and high velocity flow areas.

A high temperature of 63 degrees is predicted for Tuesday, with highs in the lower 60s on Wednesday.

Heavy rain is causing flooding throughout the Chicago area. Rain was rather limited but that will change Monday night and Tuesday.

Warmer temperatures melting the snow and repeated downpours will elevate the risk of flash, urban and river flooding across southeast MI. A mix of snow and rain is possible Friday, Saturday and Sunday and there's a chance of snow on Monday.
