With Louisville vacating its 2013 title, Rick Pitino may regret this tattoo

Louisville men's basketball program was forced to vacate all of its wins from 2011-2014, including the 2013 national championship, following a recruiting scandal which included former Louisville director of basketball operations Andre McGee allegedly organizing escort parties in which sexual acts occurred involving players and recruits.

For the past eight months, the fate of Louisville's 2013 national title has rested on the university's last-gasp bid to overturn the penalties handed down by the NCAA last June.

The NCAA's ruling can not change the accomplishments or the excitement generated by our Cardinals basketball team.

There lies Louisville's bastion of thumbing its nose: the use of the word "they", as if it were the NCAA's fault Louisville is in this position, as if it were some sort of grand conspiracy.

"I can not say this strongly enough: We believe the NCAA is simply wrong", Postel wrote.

"The violations in the case resulted in some men's basketball student-athletes competing while ineligible", the NCAA explained in its announcement Tuesday, later adding: "The appeals committee stated when student-athletes participate while ineligible, these types of penalties are appropriate".

While all of the FBI investigations are pending and we aren't sure if any will actually come to fruition, the precedent set by the NCAA in Louisville's case could make for an interesting future for college basketball scandals.

Louisville now must forfeit its third NCAA title, victories and income from 2012-15, part of the timeframe during which the violations occurred.

Christie completes Olympic nightmare in South Korea
She recovered to finish second before being carried out of the arena, seemingly safely through to Thursday's quarterfinals. But for me it didn't matter, she said after the disqualification. 'I have so much belief in the programme and in myself.

The program was also stripped of 123 wins from 2012 to 2015 after an NCAA investigation found that a member of the coaching staff had provided prostitutes and strippers to players and recruits.

So now by our count, the Knights have officially claimed the 2018 college football national championship and unofficially via the internet claimed the 2013 college basketball national championship.

Profane and defiant to the end - perfectly encapsulating a scandal Louisville should be humilitated by but has instead refused to take full responsibility for, from beginning to end. Under the NCAA's own rules, such cooperation should have been a factor in determining the severity of the punishment.

The NCAA released its notice of allegations in October 2016, charging then-head coach Rick Pitino with failing to monitor McGee's activities.

U of L all but foreclosed the possibility of filing a lawsuit in hopes of overturning the NCAA's decision.

True story. In the 1970s, a certain Southern university was charged with having one of those deep-freezer-sized televisions in its athletic dorm but nowhere else, which made the school in violation of NCAA rules.

In fact, Pitino is suing the University of Louisville Athletic Association for $37.6 million for breach of contract after he was sacked in October. Pitino, who repeatedly denied knowing about the activities described in Powell's book, was particularly frustrated with his penalties.
