Counter-terror cops probe death of Russian Nikolai Glushkov in London

Nikolai Glushkov, a Russian businessman the United Kingdom refused to extradite to Russia on fraud changes, has died in his London home, his Russian lawyer Andrei Borovkov told the Echo Moscow radio station Tuesday.

There is no evidence to suggest a link to the March 4 poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, the statement said.

Glushkov was friends with Boris Berezovsky, a Russian oligarch who also died in London in 2013 under mysterious circumstances.

In 2013, Berezovsky was found dead in his home in the United Kingdom, apparently after committing suicide. An inquest failed to determine whether he had killed himself or died from foul play.

Police said Tuesday they were investigating the "unexplained" death of a man in his 60s in London, identified by British media as Nikolai Glushkov, an associate of the late tycoon and Kremlin critic Boris Berzovsky.

Another Russian exile living in London was found dead late Monday night, just a little more than a week since a former Kremlin spy and his daughter were poisoned.

He was the former deputy managing director of Russian state airline Aeroflot, and he had worked for Berezovsky's LogoVAZ vehicle company too.

Katy Perry: I'll be a straight shooter on American Idol
But executives at ABC and Fremantle seem irked (and perhaps rightly) by the persistent questions about Idol's financial viability. And then it happens to you and you go, oh my goodness, is it actually happening. "I consider myself the instructor basically".

Police and MI5 are expected to examine allegations that a series of deaths on United Kingdom soil, including the Berezovsky case, may be linked to Russian Federation.

He is believed to be Russian businessman Nikolai Glushkov, who claimed political asylum in the United Kingdom after being convicted of fraud.

He was jailed in 1999 for five years after being charged with money laundering and fraud. "I have quite different information from what is being published in the media", he said.

Glushkov won notoriety in Russia's bare-knuckled transition to a market economy in the 1990s, when business, political and criminal interests often collided amid the privatization of state assets.

He added: "too many deaths [of Russian emigres] have been happening". Last year a Russian court found Glushkov guilty and sentenced him in absentia to eight years in prison, said the Guardian.

Glushkov died at his London home aged 68, and his cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

Britain has given Russia until midnight Tuesday to explain how the Russian-made nerve agent came to be used in an English city, or face retaliatory measures.
