Days before he died, Hawking submitted paper on parallel universe

The Sunday Times newspaper reports that the paper will be published by an unnamed "leading journal" following the completion of a review. It also theorizes that alternate universes could be found using probes on spacecraft.

"This raises doubt about the widespread idea that eternal inflation produces a highly irregular universe with a mosaic structure of bubble-like patches separated by inflationary domains", write Hawking and co-author Thomas Hertog, of the University of Leuven.

The legendary scientist died peacefully at his Cambridge residence on March 14 following complications due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - a progressive neurodegenerative disease. The theory also suggested many other universes due to various other Big Bangs that have created those universes.

It also proposes that our universe will end when all our stars burn out, as we are now sustained from the Bang's original spark.

He also told the Sunday Times that the prospect of finding existence of another universe is "breathtaking". Hawking will not be, simply because the prize is not awarded posthumously.

Under the no-boundary theory, it instantaneously expanded from a tiny point into the prototype of the universe we see today a process known as inflation.

The idea, notes Hertog, was to "transform the idea of a multiverse into a testable scientific framework".

According to Professor Neil Turok, director of Canadas Perimeter Institute and a friend of Hawkings, such ideas are controversial among cosmologists. Prior to the physicist's ground-breaking discovery, black holes were assumed to be so dense that they even pull in light; nothing can escape the gravitational pull of black holes. Others believe Hawking's work might embody the breakthrough that cosmology needs as it was the first such theory that could be tested in experiments.

However, Stephen Hawking will not be eligible for this prestigious prize since, for that, he must have to be alive since Nobel Prize is given to those who are alive.
