Feeling unwell, US state secretary cancels Kenya programme

Mr Tillerson assured President Kenyatta that his country was also keen to see continental reforms of the business environment but was glad that the judicial reforms in place meant contracts were respected and there was a clear path on investment. The US has been urging direct talks between Kenyatta and Odinga to resolve the political strife.

Opposition supremo Raila Odinga and his Nakuru ally Koigi wa Wamwere have in most occasions, despite at times taking different political routes, end up in the same political vehicle.

Through his Twitter account, Mutua warned Kenyatta and Odinga "not to be derailed by a few known fence sitters".

Miguna, whose deportation was ruled illegal by Kenya's High Court, said in his statement that he would return to Kenya on March 26 "to continue the struggle for electoral justice...."

Senate speaker Ken Lusaka and Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi speaking on the sidelines of an induction retreat for members of the senate roads committee, said the move will unite the country.

"Uhuru and Odinga met because for the good of the nation". "Because the electioneering period has left us divided ... supporters of both sides. And, hopefully we can progress from this".

The meeting, whose agenda was not disclosed, renewed a friendship between the leaders.

Canada issues new travel warning for Playa del Carmen
More explosives, which didn't detonate, were found on another boat owned by the same ferry company last week. The alert included an indefinite ban on travel to Playa del Carmen by US government employees.

In September, after Kenya's Supreme Court overturned President Uhuru Kenyatta's election victory and ordered a new poll, Kenyatta dismissed the judges as "wakora", meaning "crooks" in Swahili.

He added that the U.S. looked forward to seeing the successful implementation of the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) because it offers a big market in which the USA wants to engage.

But some Kenyans said the meeting was merely a veneer of unity ahead of a visit to Nairobi on Friday by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and it would do little to address underlying divisions that fueled last year's violence.

That's not a coincidence, said independent political analyst Martin Andati.

He won an election re-run in October, which Mr Odinga had boycotted.

The "reconciliation" Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga are talking about is not meant to help the unemployed youth get jobs and the millions of homeless Kenyans get shelter. We need to understand what exactly has been agreed upon, he said, noting the Kenyan leaders' statements contained only generalities.
