Lenin's Statue pulled down allegedly by BJP workers in Tripura

On Wednesday, Modi "strongly condemned" the vandalism of statues in many states triggered by razing of Communist hero Lenin's statue in Tripura on Monday, an act condoned by BJP leaders followed by a similar incident in Tamil Nadu. The crime was seen as another wrong manner in choosing to celebrate, and the criminals were reported and arrested by the police. Yes, the CPI-M has presided over a party-state in Tripura for over two decades like it did in West Bengal for 30-odd years, and atrocities, violence, intimidation and vandalism have been a part of its governance record too. Yes, the Periyar Statue in Vellore was attacked soon after that. The incident happened a day after BJP leader H Raja posted a message on social media platforms that denigrated social reformer Periyar E V Ramasamy. The Governor of Tripura, Tathagatha Roy, in his tweet on March 5 on the razing of the Lenin statue, had said, "What one democratically elected government can do, another democratically elected government can undo". The police personnel have been deployed near Periyar statue in Trichy to avoid any untoward incidents.Elsewhere, some unidentified persons damaged the BJP party flag mast in Orathanadu in Thanjavur leading to the protest from the BJP men on Tuesday. The incident came to light hours after the Home Ministry sent an advisory to all states and Union territories to take strong action against anyone involved in the destruction of statues.

"I later removed the post and have also removed the admin", he said and once again expressed regret.

Although he initially took his own sweet time to make his party and government stance clear.

The Tamil Nadu BJP distanced itself from Raja's remarks.
