Liverpool Confirmed Lineup vs Newcastle United: Henderson one of two changes

Liverpool climbed back into to second place after a hard-fought, 2-0 win over their former manager, Rafael Benitez and Newcastle.

The goal was also the 200th in Klopp's 97th league game in charge and since he was appointed in October 2015 only Manchester City (214) have scored more.

Liverpool will be looking to Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane for inspiration once again in their Premier League meeting with Newcastle.

The victory lifts Liverpool up into second and a point above Manchester United.

Just two goals between Salah, Firmino and Mane is a relative quiet day by their own high standards, and the impact of the trio was initially softened by Newcastle's stubborn defensive showing.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are up to third place, but Liverpool can reclaim that position if they avoid defeat against Newcastle at Anfield later on Saturday.

Salah did not waste his next opportunity, though, breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute to score his 32nd goal of the season in all competitions.

Fifa's president, Gianni Infantino , was also in attendance, along with Iranian Sport Minister Masoud Soltanifar. A group of female fans that had bought the tickets for the game were told they could not enter the stadium.

Mohamed Salah is the only Liverpool player to have played nearly every big game, and Klopp seems determined to continue his rotation policy.

"Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still a young boy, he can be much more consistent and much more of a threat".

Lovely passing combinations and superb movement led to Roberto Firmino setting up Mane, with the Senegal forward - involved earlier in the sweeping attack - beating Dubravka with a super curling strike. Game over, and there is still 34 minutes remaining.

"We had to go for it in the second half and were then more open". Salah has scored five goals in Liverpool's last four games.

In his last two meetings with Benitez, Klopp feels Liverpool have gifted Newcastle points - throwing away leads in both encounters.

Ki, who has now scored twice in his last three league games, struck from the edge of the box in the eighth minute and then later sent a corner to an unmarked Mike van der Hoorn in the centre of the box for the hosts' second.

In their prior meeting this season, Liverpool and Newcastle settled for a 1-1 draw at St. James' Park.
