US imposes sanctions on Russians for US election meddling

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration will maintain tough policies against Russian Federation until Moscow changes its behaviour, the White House said on Thursday. These individuals also include those who were indicted last month by the special counsel Robert Mueller. Trump has repeatedly cast doubt on the conclusion reached by USA intelligence that Russian President Vladimir Putin interfered in the election, and has been criticized in recent days for declining to condemn the Kremlin for allegedly poisoning a former Russian double agent in Britain on March 4.

The Trump administration announced a new round of sanctions targeting Russian entities and individuals on Thursday. "The United States can not stand by and watch the Russians use Ukraine as a cyber test range for destructive malware that then proliferates", said Rosenbach, now director of the Defending Digital Democracy Project at Harvard's Belfer Center.

Thursday's moves mark some of the Trump administration's most public and forceful denunciations of Russian Federation following a year in office in which President Donald Trump has faced frequent criticisms from Republican and Democratic lawmakers alike who contend he has not done enough to condemn Russia's actions and that of its leader Vladmir Putin.

"We call on Russian Federation to live up to its responsibilities as a member of the U.N. Security Council to uphold worldwide peace and security".

The Trump administration is imposing new sanctions on Russian Federation for its attempts to interfere with the 2016 USA presidential election. Officials said the Russian hackers chose their targets, obtained access to computer systems, conducted "network reconnaissance" of systems that control key elements of the US economy and then attempted to cover their tracks by deleting evidence of their infiltration.

The outgoing head of the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command has warned that if the United States does not take punitive or deterrent action against Russian Federation, its malicious activity will continue.

The officials described Russia's operation as ongoing.

"The administration is confronting and countering malign Russian cyber activity, including their attempted interference in USA elections, destructive cyberattacks, and intrusions targeting critical infrastructure", said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. This moves comes the same day that the Trump administration issued a joint statement with France, Germany and the United Kingdom condemning Russian Federation for what has been described as a chemical weapons attack on a former spy on British soil.

Unemployment down slightly again in ME in January
IL nonfarm payrolls were up 0.8 percent over-the-year in sharp contrast to the nation's 1.5 percent over-the-year gain in January. Meanwhile, professional and business services ticked upward by 6,200 jobs, and education and health services rose by 4,600.

The US has condemned the poison attack, but it has yet to follow the UK's lead and take direct action against the Russian government in response. Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned Moscow has "begun preparing retaliatory measures". One U.S. official put the toll at $10 billion.

In total, the United States has sanctioned 19 Russian individuals and five groups for alleged election meddling and cyberattacks.

The claim comes after the US Treasury announced that it was extending sanctions to 19 Russian individuals and five entities for their role in online disruption and attacks on key infrastructure. President Trump signed a new set of Russian sanctions passed by a 517 to 5 vote in Congress, and he was not faithfully enacting the law he ratified-missing the January 28th deadline to impose them (the second deadline he has missed as it pertains to enacting Russian sanctions). Lindsey Graham of SC.

Those targeted by the new sanctions include the Russian nationals and entities charged by Mr. Mueller. That shows the administration believes the investigation is legitimate, they argued. He said, "It's more clear than ever that the president must not interfere with the special counsel's investigation in any way".

The US Treasury also blamed Russian Federation for the NotPetya outbreak, which it called "the most destructive and costly cyber-attack in history".

It's unclear how much effect the new US measures will have in influencing Russian actions in the United States or Europe. And then a bunch of individuals that were involved with the Internet Research Agency. They were included in Mueller's indictment last month.

Some of the names included in Thursday's Treasury document correspond with the list of 13 Russians recently indicted by a United States federal grand jury for allegedly interfering with USA elections and political processes.
