'Warned of Boko Haram, Nigerian security lapses helped schoolgirls' abduction'

"This is unacceptable. While urging Nigerians to disregard the AI's latest report on the Dapchi School girls abduction, the group urged the Nigerian security agencies, particularly the Nigerian army, not to be distracted by the report like many other that have emanated from AI, as it also called on the United Nations and the global community, to call the AI to order, especially in its works, as it affects the internal security matter and sovereignty of Nigeria".

"Despite being repeatedly told that Boko Haram fighters were heading to Dapchi, it appears that the police and military did nothing to avert the abduction", she said.

At least 110 girls went missing after a February 19 raid on their school by gunmen believed to be militants - barely four years after some 276 schoolgirls were abducted in Chibok in the neighboring Borno state.

Witnesses have told the Associated Press that armed fighters arrived in trucks in Dapchi, shouting: "Show us where the school is!"

This was hours before 110 schoolchildren were kidnapped from the government girl's school.

.

One witness said he knew the men were not soldiers even though they wore military uniforms because their vehicles had Arabic inscriptions.

Parents and educators in Africa's most populous country have raised an outcry in response to the attack, demanding better security for schools in the vast region where Boko Haram has kidnapped thousands of people over almost a decade.

"The Defence of our national territorial integrity is our utmost goal and as such the Armed Forces in conjunction with sister security agencies will continue to strive toward entrenching peace in the North-East and indeed every part of this great nation, " Agim said.

"Amnesty International always brings out damming reports about the Nigerian Military at strategic points".

Washington Aims At Venezuela's Cryptocurrency In New Round Of Sanctions
The sanctions came a few months after Canada imposed sanctions against several Venezuelan officials, including the president. In January, the US Treasury warned investors to avoid trading with Venezuela's cryptocurrency.

The Human Rights Body in a statement on Tuesday, the military was warned ahead of the attack but failed also questioned the withdrawal of troops in the weeks leading to attack, noting that no lessons were learnt from a similar kidnap in Chibok, Borno State in April 2014.

The military had reportedly done nothing.

"Evidence available to Amnesty International suggests that there are insufficient troops deployed in the area, and that an absence of patrols and the failure to respond to warnings and engage with Boko Haram contributed to this tragedy", Amnesty's Ojigho said.

One of the Dapchi villager who received a phone call said he put a call through to a police sergeant, who promised to inform the Dapchi Division Police Officer (DPO).

"There were security lapses which the military does not want to admit, but we shall speak the truth about what happened that day".

He assured that the Federal Government will not rest until all the Chibok and Dapchi school girls in the Boko Haram custody are released and reunited with their families.

According to BBC, Amnesty claim the attack was reported as it happened but still the army failed to respond.

"What happened in Dapchi is nearly a carbon copy of what happened in Chibok, with the security forces failing to respond to warnings - and the same result for another hundred girls and their families".
