Woods one shot off lead

Woods one shot off lead

Woods bounced back in trademark fashion with three birdies on the home stretch iced by a stunning 71-foot birdie putt he drained from off the green at the par-3 seventh. It ended up in the hole for a closing eagle that boosted him to a 5-under 67 and the solo lead.

Tiger Woods takes his rousing comeback tour to one of his favourite haunts - Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill layout, where the 14-time Major victor has triumphed eight times. At the Westgate, more bets were placed and more money was wagered on Woods to win the Arnold Palmer than on any other golfer.

The 14-time major champion made birdie on all four par fives, marking the first time he has birdied all par fives in a round on the PGA Tour since the 2015 Players Championship. "Just keep making incremental improvements and I think I've done that".

He started out brilliantly with three birdies on the back nine of the course (Woods' front nine of the day as he started his round on the 10th tee). He is still, you know, got to be the strongest competitor out there. It was only when he reached his ball that a rules official informed him he was subject to a penalty and would need to go back to the tee to play his third.

On Thursday, Goydos carded back-to-back bogeys to slip to two-under, then grinded out an even-par second nine for a two-under in the round.

Gonzaga survives and advances over UNC Greensboro, despite dismal free throw shooting
UNCG finished the first half going 0 for 13 from 3-point range, before hitting just three in the second half to finish 3 for 22. Faced with the opportunity to make his own mark Norvell didn't back down, and as a result Gonzaga has another game to play.

Coming off a tie for second at last week's Valspar Championship, Woods has raced into a share of the lead midway through the opening round at Florida's famed Bay Hill course.

"I love being on top when Tiger's around", Reed said.

"At one point that wasn't even a thought", Woods said this week.

But the electricity of the day came from Woods, the 42-year-old superstar who has not won a major since the 2008 US Open and hasn't captured any title since the 2013 World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational. The electricity that courses through the crowds when Woods is playing well, he added, "just seems to kind of elevate, and for some reason it just kind of gets me going". "Tiger was that intimidating".
