In new book, Comey says Trump is 'untethered to truth'

Republicans are launching a preemptive strike against former FBI Director James Comey's credibility, labeling him "Lyin' Comey" in advance of his book and publicity tour in which he is expected to trash President Trump.

Kelly added that he "intended to quit", Comey writes, and "said he didn't want to work for dishonorable people".

Comey recalls urging Kelly to stay in his job, which he did, arguing that "this president" especially needed principled public servants in his administration.

"I don't know James Comey, but I'm certainly not someone who would have any desire to criticize or bring him down", he said. Republicans will argue that Comey "repeatedly usurped" the authority of then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and violated protocol by "publicly acknowledging the existence of ongoing FBI investigations".

Mr. Comey begins a national tour next week in support of his book, "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies & Leadership".

Either Democrats or Republicans that worked for President Obama". (Mueller is a lifelong Republican). Q Yeah, just fire the guy. "I think it's disgraceful and so does a lot of other people".

Comey was heading the investigation into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign, an investigation with which Trump was becoming increasingly frustrated, reportedly describing it as a "cloud" hanging over his presidency.

The exhaustive plan to attack Comey illustrates how seriously Trump's allies are taking the memoir and a round of television interviews Comey is set to give, including on CNN starting next week followed by a town hall April 25.

It was May 2017, and Comey was in Los Angeles speaking with FBI agents when he found out from TV news reports that Trump had fired him as director of the bureau.

"From prosecuting the Mafia and Martha Stewart to helping change the Bush administration's policies on torture and electronic surveillance, overseeing the Hillary Clinton e-mail investigation as well as ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, Comey has been involved in some of the most consequential cases and policies of recent history", the book's description reads.

Other Democrats whose past quotes are included on the website include Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., ("I do not have confidence in [Comey] any longer"), Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., ("The FBI director has no credibility.") and Sen.
