Israeli jets target Gaza position after infiltration attempt

Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman in Gaza, insisted that the man who was shot had been killed, without identifying him.

As Common Dreams reported, the prominent Jerusalem-based human rights group B'Tselem argued ahead of last week's protests that Israeli soldiers are "duty-bound to refuse to comply" with "patently illegal" orders to shoot unarmed civilians.

The indiscriminate use of excessive force against innocent civilians constitutes a war crime that can not be justified under any circumstances, the commission said.

Senior Palestinian official Hanan Ashrawi said the video showed what Palestinians have long alleged regarding the actions of Israeli occupation forces on the Gaza border, "but nobody has been listening".

Israel says it has only fired at "instigators" trying to carry out attacks.

Caught on video by a human rights group and spread widely online, it showed the 21-year-old Palestinian lying wounded on the ground, shot along with another Palestinian after allegedly stabbing and wounding a soldier, according to the army.

Protests since along the Gaza border that have been targeted by Israeli forces, killing 31 Palestinians since 30 March, have nonetheless led to expressions of support for Gazans from Abbas.

Israel's War Crimes in Gaza Continues
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the riots on the Gaza border over the last few weeks on Saturday, saying. So far, over 30 Palestinian have been killed and hundreds injured by the Israeli military and police forces.

"The IDF (Israeli Defence Forces) views with great severity the Hamas terror organisation endeavours to turn the security fence parameter into a combat zone while attempting to damage security and defence infrastructure", the army said in its Monday statement. On Sunday, the military said two explosive devices were found near Israel's border with Gaza, hours after three Palestinians from Gaza crossed briefly into Israel. Out of that number, 26 were killed during the protests at the Gaza-Israel border.

In an official statement Tuesday the Israeli occupation army announced the action took place on December 22, 2017 and happened in the context of a "response to a violent riot", accusing the man who was standing near the border fence in no apparent act of violence of being suspected of organizing violent incidents.

The shooting appears to take place along the Gaza Strip border with Israel, with one of the voices in the video declaring in Hebrew: "Wow". Other soldiers are heard cursing the man and then cheering when he falls.

The statement said the footage was not filmed by the Israeli sharpshooter but by a soldier from a different unit.

The interesting thing from this response, if true, shows that the Israeli military shoots at unarmed protesters and only cares to "investigate" such incidents several months later when embarrassing video surfaces.

It condemned the filming of the incident and the statements the soldiers made.
