Odell in the building for Giants' offseason workouts

Odell Beckham was present for roll call to begin the offseason program with the New York Giants on Monday. The Giants likely are angling for a long-term extension rather than the potential trade that has been rumored for the last few weeks. The 25-year-old talent has been one of the game's best receivers, but his inability to keep his composure on and off the field has made him a liability to the franchise that drafted him 13th-overall in 2014.

Shurmur, on what Odell Beckham's presence at Day 1 of the program means: "I'm not overthinking this". Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Beckham is mostly showing up for a brief medical check, with no plans to rejoin the team anytime soon unless he gets a new contract.

Kim Jones of NFL Network initially reported that Beckham planned on attending.

"I really feel that Odell can be just a skilled and he wants to be incredible", Shurmur explained. I'm looking forward to him getting one day better by being here and to him inspiring teammates to get better, because he's here and he's a terrific player. "This is the first day of work, this is the first opportunity for all of us to be here together and I think it's important that Odell is here". I think it's important that Odell is here. "I'm glad he's here today". I didn't want to get in the way of that.

Recently there have been reports that the Giants were willing to listen to offers for their star wide receiver. From the video of him with what appeared to be multiple drugs, to trade rumors involving the New York Giants and OBJ, to the star wideout reportedly holding out until a new contract is signed. He's recovering from a broken left ankle, but the injury occurred in October and the expectation is Beckham might be held back until minicamp. "For the most part, we're trying to get things started, take advantage of the extra time we have and we want to grow away from basically what happened a year ago, the 3-13 season", the former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator said.
