Raid on his lawyer abuses attorney-client privilege

The FBI's raid on the offices of US President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, has unsettled the White House, the markets - and other men named Michael Cohen.

"We'll see what may happen", Mr Trump said on Monday. They also have asked regulators to investigate a $150,000 payment by the National Enquirer's parent company to a former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who also says she had an affair with Trump.

Porn actress Stormy Daniels says that Cohen's surreptitious payment aimed to keep her quiet about her earlier relationship with Trump.

Before landing the coveted legal job, Berman worked for the law firm Greenberg Traurig in New York and New Jersey, where Trump confidant and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is also employed.

Cohen's own attorney Stephen Ryan said agents were working in part on the request of Mueller, the independent prosecutor investigating links between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign. Daniels' team has had extensive communications with federal investigators, said a third person familiar with the investigations, who demanded anonymity to discuss the confidential matter.

In this case, there was reports by The Washington Post that it was bank fraud and campaign finance violations.

Officials from the Southern District declined to comment on the recusal, which was first reported by ABC News.

The U.S. Attorney's Office involvement may be a courtesy because the search is in their district, he said.

Adult film star #Stormy Daniels has been in the media a lot lately, with the details of her affair with US President #Donald Trump and all of his kinks and sexual pleasures becoming journalistic gold.

(My colleague Amy Davidson Sorkin wrote about Trump's initial reaction to the raid.) It's pretty clear, though, that such an option is very much on his mind. The White House did not immediately reply to a request for comment about Cobb and McGahn trying to dissuade Trump.

"I have this witch hunt constantly going on", Trump said.

A spokesperson with that office did not immediately respond to a request for comment late Monday evening. She was crying and could not speak and did not consent to the activity, according to the lawsuit.

Several lawyers noted that public statements from Cohen and Trump that the president was unaware of the payment may have significantly aided federal prosecutors' legal arguments to justify searching the lawyer's office, home and hotel room.

On Tuesday, Sanders said Trump believes the raid on Cohen's office went "too far", but she also said that it's a separate investigation from Mueller's probe.

The raid was "upsetting, to say the least", he told CNN. Cohen says the raid was "upsetting to say the least" and he would be "lying" if he said he wasn't anxious.

The White House remained defiant that the president has the power to directly fire Mueller - despite Justice Department regulations saying otherwise.

Trump accused Mueller of overseeing a biased investigation staffed by Democrats, "a pure and simple witch-hunt".

"We do not discuss conversations we have had or have not had with the special counsel", he said. "Do I want to be involved in this? No".

"Sometimes the US attorney is out of town or not available, and so there's a whole chain of delegation of acting USA attorneys", he said. "Many people have said, 'You should fire him, ' " the president added. I'm the guy who would take a bullet for the president.

Avenatti declined comment when asked whether Daniels has been contacted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Justice Department in connection with the Cohen raid. Republicans in Congress - once considered a reliable bulwark that might help keep an angry president at bay - have become increasingly incensed over the department's slow production of documents on controversial cases, including the Hillary Clinton email case.

A source close to the President said there have been ongoing negotiations between Mueller's team and the President's legal team for a potential interview, but the raid on the President's personal attorney has upended those discussions. The White House cited a need to remain in the United States to monitor the USA response to a suspected chemical attack in Syria.

I'm the guy who protects the president and the family. "I am entirely confident that his decision-making is the result of thoughtful and careful consideration of every issue that comes before him".
