Syria braces for possible USA attack, calls it 'reckless'

"Indeed, the current global situation can not but cause concern", Putin said at a ceremony to receive credentials from foreign ambassadors in Moscow on Wednesday. The current situation in the world is worrisome.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been butting heads with the United States over Syria, said Wednesday that although rising tensions in a "chaotic world" have been causing anxiety, he hopes that "common sense will prevail". Get ready Russian Federation, because they will be coming, nice and new and "smart".

Trump had tweeted earlier that Russian Federation shouldn't be allied with a "Gas Killing Animal", a reference to Syrian President Bashar Assad, whose regime is accused of killing dozens of people in a suspected chemical attack on rebel-held Douma over the weekend.

The US President Donald trump said Wednesday that USA relations with Russian Federation are now even worse than during the cold war, writes the Chronicle.info with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.

The Syrian government and Russian Federation have denied that a chemical attack took place. Russian Federation says the number of casualties is not true.

In a phone call, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned each other about the repercussions of actions related to Iran's presence in Syria.

The Kremlin said in a separate statement that Putin urged Netanyahu to avoid actions that might destabilise the situation in Syria and stressed the importance of not violating Syria's sovereignty, reports Xinhua.

Missiles Strike Air Base in Syria
The attack comes just days after a sarin nerve gas attack in the city of Douma, east of Damascus, that killed dozens of civilians. Then, within days the USA military fired cruise missiles at a Syrian airfield where the sarin attack had been launched from.

The Kremlin spokesman has commented on President Donald Trump's tweet warning of an imminent missile strike on Syria by saying that Moscow doesn't engage in Twitter diplomacy.

While no solid evidence that the purported chemical attack has emerged, top U.S. officials have squarely pinned the blame for it on Damascus. Trump called the raid "an attack on our country".

Russia's OPCW envoy Alexander Shulgin said in a live interview on Wednesday that the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW was ready to send its experts to Syria at the end of the week. "We will work to build good relationships with all of our partners around the globe".

Meanwhile, First Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff's Main Operations Department Lieutenant General Viktor Poznikhir blamed the attack on the White Helmets organization, a self-proclaimed civil defense group.

In its statement, the Foreign Ministry, repeated its line that Washington's allegations were "unsubstantiated" and that the alleged chemical attack is being used as a pretext to target Syria.

Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, in a Facebook post Wednesday, wondered if the chemical weapons watchdog investigating the reports of the attack on Douma had been warned that United States missiles would destroy "all evidence" of the attack.

He said the militants had carried out similar provocations in the past but never succeeded.
