Trump Teams Up With Qatar: Time to Consider QAT?

Trump Teams Up With Qatar: Time to Consider QAT?

Trump has lodged the accusation after Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates severed diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing the country of supporting terrorism and interfering in their internal affairs.

"We do not and we will not tolerate people who fund terrorism".

Trump said the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and others that were previously funding terrorism had stopped such activities.

The Persian Gulf Arab country is a long-standing American military ally and host to the largest USA air base in the Middle East. Al-Udeid air base also houses military personnel from the United Kingdom and other allies. He says Trump's role "is very vital to end the crisis in the region".

US Secretary of Defense James Mattis (L) and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani listen to the US national anthem during an honor cordon at the Pentagon April 9, 2018 in Washington, DC.

And a readout of the meeting issued later by the White House said "the leaders discussed joint efforts to finalize new commercial deals that would create more than 50,000 American jobs" in addition to discussing Syria and "Iranian and Russian malign influence" there.

Donald Trump will not attend the Summit of the Americas
For many in Latin America, Trump's decision to skip the summit deepened the view that Trump does not care about the region. The summit, which is to include heads of state and government from the Western Hemisphere, takes place April 13-14.

"Qatar is an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Persian Gulf region", the agency said. Qatar has denied the charges.

President Donald Trump is hosting the ruling emir of Qatar, the tiny gas-rich nation he once accused of funding terrorism.

The announcement was made ahead of a meeting between Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and US President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

Last June, Trump backed Saudi Arabia and the UAE's hard-line rhetoric against neighbour Qatar in a tweet. He said Qatar had historically supported terror groups at a "high level".

Qatar is set to enter the global bond markets meeting with United Kingdom and USA investors from April 9-11 ahead of issuing five-, 10- and 30-year dollar notes.

A top fundraiser for Trump also filed a lawsuit last month against Qatar and lobbyists working for the state, alleging they hacked his and his wife's emails as part of the ongoing dispute.
